‘Why can’t you be like others?”
These words are shadows chasing my every light like intruders.
I am an athlete, one drowning in this sea of comparison.
For a buried validation – and I wonder if my existence is a sin.
I wanted to end it all, not to rest in peace but to find peace.
So I drank myself to stupor and drove into an accident that left me in a coma.
Coma gave me peace and I understood I was becoming.
It doesn’t matter if people whisper gossip and call me a ‘walk of shame.’
I will no longer carry the weight of expectations on my shoulders as though fighting to get featured in the Hall of Fame.
I am the light at the end of a thousand dark tunnels.

Great spoken word piece. It a call to everyone passing through set backs and comparisons. No matter how long it takes there is always hope because everyone has their own journeys, purpose and different paths in life. Well done 👍
