HAPPY IN-DEPENDENCE

‎Ha ha  ha
‎My laughter erupts from within,
‎Celebrating another in a country that has forgotten its own definition.

‎Our teachers taught us:
‎“A country is a geographical area, surrounded by boundaries, governed by a system.”
‎But now? We’ve lost our boundary,
‎Lost our government,
‎And unity is a myth we only read in books.

‎We’re trapped in the shackles of modern-day slavery.
‎I used to think we were independent…
‎But we depend.
‎Living like slaves in a nation we were raised to love.

‎over 60?, over 60 years of so-called growth,
‎i’ve even lost count of the numbers
‎Yet people suffer, people die
‎And you expect a parade?

‎We’re mimicking the slavery that once bound us,
‎Only this time, we’ve chosen the chains.
‎The rich keep getting richer.
‎And the poor?
‎They have no hope.

‎I feel the pain in this national “celebration,”
‎I wish I could write my heart cry in erasable ink,
‎So I could erase what we’ve lived because this isn’t life,
‎Not the one the Creator promised us.

‎The ones we appointed?
‎Driving us to doom.
‎But I…..i… I didn’t choose them.
‎I wasn’t among we were not a party to it .

‎Now we’re on tracks of corruption,
‎On roads paved with embezzlement.
‎Breaking this already broken world further
‎What will we show the generations to come?
‎I am ashamed for us.

‎Children.
‎Men.
‎Women.
‎Our rants are now chants.
‎They carry the tune of sorrow, hunger, shame, and pain.

‎We live like choir ministers in a call and response:
‎They call for power, wealth, and oppression
‎We respond with war, agony, fear… and too often, death.

‎Their silence becomes forever
‎Six feet deep into the land they once swore to serve.

‎As for me?
‎I’m tired.
‎My patience, gone.
‎Our mother’s land
‎Broken, shattered… the puzzle too scattered to fix.

‎So no,
‎I will not say “Happy Independence.”

‎Instead, I fall on my knees and pray:
‎That our story be re-written.
‎That light finds its way back to us.
‎That we see a change.

‎HAPPY inDEPENDENCE.
