What is The PoetryMine?

The PoetryMine is Oozezi’s annual celebration of poetic excellence, inviting writers to craft a single original poem inspired by a given prompt. Submissions open during the final week of January and remain open until the 15th of March. The winning poem is officially announced on the 21st of March (World Poetry Day)

Participants may submit one poem per edition, and all entries must be original and aligned with the prompt. The winning poet receives a distinguished cash prize and is immortalized in the Hall of Fame, where their work is showcased permanently on Oozezi. Additional rewards may be granted depending on sponsorship for that year. The PoetryMine exists to spotlight creativity, elevate emerging voices, and honour the art of poetry through a competition that is simple, inspiring, and deeply rewarding.

What is The FWF?

The Fan-Written Fiction (FWF) competition invites writers to co-create a single ongoing story, one chapter at a time. Each story begins with a first chapter written by us, and every two weeks, participants submit their own continuation. The best submission is selected as the winning chapter, and the author receives ₦10,000. This continues for 14 chapters, with the 15th and final chapter awarding a grand prize of ₦50,000. All winning authors are credited on our website, and the full story remains published permanently on Oozezi.

Tier 2 Challenges

Tier 3 Challenges

Reserved for the most ambitious and difficult writing, this tier includes high-stakes, standalone contests demanding professional-level execution and innovation. These challenges offer the largest cash rewards and exclusive recognition.

How does the FWF competition work?
Each FWF story starts with a first chapter written by us. Every two weeks, writers submit a continuation. We pick one winning chapter, credit the author, and publish it as the next chapter in the series.
Are the ₦10,000 and ₦50,000 prizes for all competitions?
No. Those prizes apply only to the FWF competitions (₦10,000 per winning chapter; ₦50,000 for the final chapter). We also run other competitions and challenge tiers with their own prize amounts and rules. Always check the competition card for the specific prize and tier.
What are the competition tiers (Tier 1, 2, 3)?
Tiers indicate difficulty and prize scale across non-FWF challenges:
Tier 1: Smaller prompts and smaller prizes.
Tier 2: Moderately challenging with larger prizes.

How much can I win in non-FWF competitions?

How long should my FWF submission be?
FWF submissions should be a minimum of 2,500 words. For other competitions, word count requirements may differ—check the rules on the specific competition page.
How are entries judged?
For FWF: continuity with the ongoing story, character consistency, plot progression, readability, and originality. For other competitions: criteria match the prompt and tier (e.g., theme fit, craft, creativity). See the judging notes on each competition page.
When are winners announced?
FWF winners are typically announced after the two-week submission window closes and reviews are complete. Other competitions have their own timelines—check each card for the close date and expected announcement window.
Can I submit to multiple competitions at once?
Yes, as long as your entries meet each competition’s rules and deadlines. You may not reuse the same piece if a competition requires exclusive or original work created for that prompt.
Do I retain rights to my work?
Yes. Writers retain full rights to their entries. By submitting, you grant us a license to publish the piece on our website with proper credit if it wins (and, for FWF, to display it as part of the ongoing story).
What are the content and originality rules?
Submissions must be your original work and free of plagiarism or AI-generated content that you do not significantly author and edit yourself. Follow our community standards (no hate, illegal content, or explicit material where prohibited). Competition pages may list additional constraints.
Who can enter? Are there age or location limits?
Unless stated otherwise on a competition page, entries are open internationally to individuals who meet the local legal age to participate in prize competitions. If a specific challenge has age or residency restrictions, they will be listed on that challenge page.
How do I get paid if I win?
Winners are paid via the methods specified on the competition page (e.g., bank transfer or supported digital payments). Currency is typically listed on the card; FWF prizes are denominated in ₦. If a competition lists a different currency, that currency applies.
Can I collaborate with another writer?

What happens after all 15 FWF chapters?
